FIU‑the Netherlands hands over the goAML strategy to UNODC

At the end of 2025, FIU the Netherlands was elected as chair of the International User Group for goAML. This group now consists of 75 FIUs worldwide that also use goAML, our reporting system. It is both an honour and an important responsibility to represent the interests of all these countries.

As chair, FIU‑the Netherlands aims to establish regional groups of like‑minded FIUs within their geographic regions. For Europe, this will significantly strengthen cooperation with other FIUs in the European Union in preparation for the AML Package, which will place substantial technical demands on all of us.

Today, the head of FIU‑the Netherlands, Lisette Heerze, formally handed over the two‑year goAML strategy to Chhaya Kapilashrami, Director of the Division for Management at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), at the UNODC Headquarters in Vienna.

“Criminal networks are often extremely innovative in their use of technology to locate and exploit governance loopholes. It is imperative that the international community at least keep up, if not outpace them. It is vital to enhance this seamless, automated data exchange in real time with relevant partners in goAML. Strong financial intelligence is perhaps the most critical weapon against these networks” said Heerze, while presenting the strategy.
